Fishing in the NT- Dundee Beach

Dundee Beach is in the Northern Territory of Australia, located approximately 59 kilometres southwest of the territory capital of Darwin. The Finnis River runs west from the flank of Mount Minza, passing north of Litchfield National Park and flowing into the sea at Fog Bay. The Finnis River offers the best of both worlds with saltwater estuary fishing including varieties such as Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon and Jewfish whilst upstream a little – hit the freshwater and get yourself into the mood for some Saratoga, Tarpon and of course more Barra.

With only a day or two to spare we with took a Barra or Blue Charter up the Finniss River and it didn’t disappoint. Crocodiles sun baked on the mudflats and barra lined the river in a constant flow. Plenty of rats, and Rob was soon to land one. There are strict catch limits

While you do not need a recreational fishing licence or a recreational boat licence in the NT, you must follow recreational boat laws. You must follow boat rules and carry the right boat safety equipment. Refer to the safety guide for recreational boating for details. You should also learn about crocodile safety.

A General Personal Possession Limit (GPL) of 15 fish applies. This is the maximum number of fish a person may have in their possession at any time (other than in their permanent residence). Included within the 15 fish GPL you may only have a maximum number of the following specified fish as shown below. NT rangers and police regularly enforce these limits.
