Guess-and-replace is the expensive way to fix a boat. We work the other way: test systematically from the battery out, under the conditions where the fault shows up. Voltage drop under load, meggering suspect runs, shaking down connections that only fail with vibration. When we find it, we show you what it was — then repair it to marine standard so it stays fixed.
A sounder that reboots at speed is usually a supply problem, not a sounder problem. A dead gauge is often an earth fault half a boat away. This is why parts-swapping doesn’t work on marine electrical systems — and why a proper diagnosis is nearly always the cheaper path.
Yes. Intermittent faults usually show under load, heat or vibration, so we test under those conditions rather than at rest at the dock. If it takes a run on the water to reproduce it, we do that.
Commonly a supply or connection fault — voltage drop under load, a tired connector or interference from other equipment. Occasionally it’s transducer placement. We test rather than guess.
We work at an hourly rate for diagnosis and quote the repair separately once the cause is found. You get a straight answer on the likely time when you describe the symptom.
