And that’s a wrap – Lago di Bolsena 2024 XV111 Bass Fishing World Championships

Australia 2nd place in the Nations – Congratulations lads.

Individual Teams: 2nd place; Matthew Langford & Mitchell Cone 4th place; Tommy Wood and Kris Hickson 4th Place overall

Australia was treated to an Italian cultural welcome parade down the streets around Lake Bolsena, located in the Italian province of Viterbo. Bolsena welcomes the best of the best in Bass fishing. While this year’s World Championship played out on a lake that’s still in its infancy, the 2024 version will be conducted on one that’s been around for centuries. Lake Bolsena, located in the central region of Italy, is that country’s largest volcanic lake and is surrounded by historic sites from all periods dating back to the height of the Roman Empire.

15 National Teams comprised of Italy, Australia, USA, Canada, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Puerto Rica, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Norway, Romania, Croatia.

Largemouth Bass (Black Bass) were introduced to Bolsena in the 1970s and they’ve been thriving ever since. They are not found in Australia, so this was a learning curve on the pre-fish. The Australian Team had a diversity of experience in Bream, Bass and Barramundi.

The Australian Team comprised of 3, two-man teams : Mick Johnson & Braden Schuch, Matthew Langford & Mitchell Cone, Kris Hickson & Tommy Wood.

Italy led on the first day, with Australia in 2nd place, then Spain rallied on the Saturday tying with Australia for second but rallied to take the gold medal with a total of 75 kilograms. The Australians claimed the silver medal with 73.630 kilograms while Italy, which led the first two days, earned the bronze with 72.230.
